Wanderlust
Our family spent several years as expatriates in Europe when I was a child, and the experience of taking family vacations to different countries changed the trajectory of my life. I missed Europe when we repatriated to the United States, and from that point on, I have lived with a foot in each land, loving both yet never feeling fully at home while away from the other.
I studied foreign languages, art, and international business. Any time I changed jobs, I negotiated a few extra weeks to travel to another country and sate my wanderlust before moving on to the next adventure.
Not surprisingly, I married a European, and my French husband and I have continued our love of travel and exploration with our children. Taking the time to sketch, photograph, and journal while traveling not only creates vivid memories but also reveals new aspects of ourselves.
Traveling Wisdom...
"Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." - Miriam Beard
"We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." - T.S. Eliot
